Intuit Makes Tax Preparation Software Available Free On The Internet
New TurboTax 1040EZ Online available at Intuit´s Web site http://www.quicken.com/taxes on January 31
SAN DIEGO, CA - January 27, 1997 - Remember those feelings you had not so long ago when you landed your first real job -- the joy, pride and anxiety? All that seems left now is the anxiety as you face a more daunting rite of passage -- filing your first tax return.

Help is right at your fingertips. Next time you start your computer to play Doom or e-mail a college friend, you can visit the TurboTax Tax Center Web site (http://www.quicken.com/taxes/) which provides everything you need to quickly and easily complete a 1040EZ tax return. No charge -- no fooling.

Intuit's new TurboTax 1040EZ Online is an Internet-based personal tax filing software solution. By the makers of TurboTax, America's leading tax preparation software, TurboTax 1040EZ Online eliminates the need to search for all the right IRS forms or learn confusing tax lingo.

It incorporates TurboTax's award-winning interview, EasyStep, which asks questions to guide you through the tax preparation process, just like having an accountant to help you along. And, TurboTax 1040EZ Online does all the calculations, reducing the risk of having a mathematical error, which is the number one reason the IRS kicks back tax returns.

"With more than 20 million Americans filing 1040EZ tax returns, our goal was to create a simple and fast way to prepare those returns for 18 to 24 year olds," said Scott Cook, Intuit chairman. "Filing taxes can be a nerve-racking experience, especially for first-time filers, which is why we guarantee all our tax products for accuracy."

How does this stuff work? Visit the TurboTax Web site and click on the link to TurboTax 1040EZ Online. Download the applet onto your computer and fill in your tax data as EasyStep walks you through the process. When you're done, you can print a return that is ready to be mailed to the IRS. Or, for about the price of a pizza ($9.95), you can use Intuit's electronic filing service to help you get your refund two to four weeks earlier, which could help you pay back a student loan or finance that first real vacation (or Spring Break if you're still in college).

Intuit guarantees that TurboTax 1040EZ calculations are accurate. In the unlikely event that you are assessed an IRS penalty due to a calculation error, Intuit will pay the penalty, plus any interest that may be charged.

And while you're at the TurboTax Web site, check out what else is at the Tax Center, which is updated continuously with information like tips for surviving an audit, advice on legal tax shelters or tax saving hints for homeowners. Who knows, maybe you can prove to your parents that the money they're spending on your college expenses is tax-deductable for them.
