Intuit Increases Consumer Choices With 'Quicken Home & Business 98'
New Product Integrates Invoicing, Other Business Basics Into Quicken Deluxe
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - September 15, 1997 - Responding to significant demand from Quicken customers who wanted invoicing capability for their small businesses, Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU) today introduced Quicken Home & Business 98 - an innovative new version of its best-selling personal finance program that delivers easy invoicing as well as receivables tracking, tax help and business information.

While Intuit's leading QuickBooks product remains the most complete small business financial management solution for the broadest range of customers, Quicken Home & Business 98 fills a substantial void for Quicken customers who want to integrate business invoicing and tracking with their personal and basic business financial management.

"More than a third of current Quicken customers already use the program to track small business finances and that group asked us specifically to add invoicing capability to the product," said Scott Cook, chairman and co-founder of Intuit. "Of course, we went further by adding other easy-to-use business applications that allow customers to track both their personal and basic business finances in one place."

Besides generating invoices, the new product includes business management tools that allow customers to perform fundamental operations such as tracking receivables, sales tax and reimbursable expenses and generating tax reports - all from within Quicken. As an added benefit, Quicken Home & Business 98 includes a helpful users guide with information on how to start and operate a small business.

Easily Generate Professional Invoices, Track Receivables
Quicken users can now easily generate professional invoices with Quicken Home & Business 98. The invoicing function is flexible, allowing users to customize the invoices to suit their business needs. For example, users can add their own logo to the invoice forms as well as manipulate invoice templates to include information that applies to their specific business and accounts.

All invoices are stored in one location and users can easily track their status using a register that lists all client or customer transactions. Invoicing data is entered only once and Quicken Home & Business automatically calculates state taxes to be collected and sets the funds aside in a separate account.

With Quicken Home & Business, users who render business services to be paid for over a period of time can keep tabs on what is owed to them - and when - by their clients or customers. For example, users create receivables accounts in the Quicken register and as they update customer payments the program automatically brings up a list of all outstanding invoices for that client. The program applies each payment to the oldest outstanding invoice, eliminating the need to look for it. Users can override the function with a mouse click and apply the payment to any invoice they choose.

Business owners often are entitled to reimbursement by their clients for out-of-pocket expenses and Quicken Home & Business helps track and bill those expenditures. As customers input business-related expenses in the regular Quicken check or credit card register, they flag it as a reimbursable expense. Customers then choose from a list of expense categories and with a mouse click categorize and apply each item to the next invoice prepared for that client, eliminating the hassle of having to go through the register to determine which expenses are reimbursable.

Help Tracking Income Tax
Quicken Home & Business can now generate reports that help users prepare Schedule C tax forms, which are used by sole proprietors. Using the program, small business owners can set up links to specific line items that are part of the Schedule C Form, for example, gross receipts or sales - and enter the information on routinely. Quicken Home & Business automatically culls the information into a report that helps users determine their exact tax liability. Information from the reports generated by Quicken Home & Business can also be easily transferred to actual Schedule C Forms within Intuit's TurboTax product.

Another benefit of Quicken Home & Business is a helpful business user's guide that includes tools and tips on how to launch, grow and sustain a profitable small business. The guide helps customers get the most out of Quicken and includes specific guidance on how to use the new business features.

Quicken Home & Business 98 joins new versions of Quicken products: Quicken Basic 98; Quicken Deluxe 98; and Quicken Suite 98, a money-saving bundle of three Intuit products - Quicken Deluxe, Quicken Financial Planner and Quicken Family Lawyer. All four versions are available at leading retail software stores and directly from Intuit at 1-800-4-INTUIT.

In addition to the new business functionality, customers who buy Quicken Home & Business 98 automatically receive all the new benefits included in Quicken Deluxe 98, a significantly improved version that dramatically increases consumers' ability to get more from their money and stay on top of their finances with less work.

Improved Internet integration in Quicken Deluxe 98 provides up-to-the-minute financial news and information from the World Wide Web to help people make more informed investment decisions and save time on important financial decisions such as buying insurance, selecting a mortgage and filing taxes. Seamless Internet integration also enables users to directly retrieve their banking and investment data, reducing the need for manual input and placing all of the information in one location in Quicken
