Quicken 98 Delivers New Ways to Help Macintosh Users Save Time and Money
Web Access Increases Consumers Ability To Make Smart Financial Decisions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - September 15, 1997 - Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) today announced a new version of its best-selling software Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh that saves users time and money and enables them to make more informed financial decisions.

For the first time in Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh, users have the ability to access the Internet from Quicken. With Web access, customers can obtain up-to-the-minute information from Intuits popular personal finance Web site quicken.com that will help them track the performance of their investments. Internet access also allows users to import account information directly from banks and credit card issuers, delivering tremendous new benefits for making smarter investment and purchasing decisions and by cutting the amount of tedious data entry.

Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh delivers innovative new tools that help consumers easily organize and manage their financial lives and stay on top of their finances with a lot less time and work. It includes a unique new feature QuickEntry available exclusively in Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh, which enables users to very easily and quickly enter and track their routine daily expenses.

Mac users are among the most loyal of our customers and are very specific about what kinds of features they find useful in Quicken, said Scott Cook, chairman and co-founder of Intuit. In response, we've packed the program with great new tools that are easy to use and which become even more valuable because we've added Internet access.

QuickEntry Speeds Input of Daily Expenses
Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh helps consumers keep timely and accurate records with much less work. In surveys conducted by Intuit, Macintosh customers asked for a faster way to enter their daily expenses into Quicken because they were tired of stuffing receipts in wallets and car ashtrays, or writing notes for routine purchases like coffee, dry cleaning or lunch.

Intuit responded with QuickEntry, a separate, single-screen program that resembles the regular Quicken register, but which allows users to enter their transactions without opening up the full Quicken application. QuickEntry starts up when users click on a special icon that appears in the Quicken Deluxe 98 folder on the computer start up screen. In seconds users can enter a days routine expenses. Later, when customers fire up the Quicken Deluxe program, QuickEntry automatically transfers the most recent entries from QuickEntry into the Quicken cash, checking and credit card registers.

The net result is that users can track their smallest and most frequent expenditures with less work, thus increasing their ability to stay easily organized and accurate.

Internet Integration Helps Move Users Beyond Organization
Customers who use Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh and who have Web access -- through an Internet Access Provider and their preferred browser will discover new capabilities to move beyond organization towards making smarter financial decisions that save time and money.

Dynamic, constantly updated financial data from the Internet through links to Intuits NetWorth site on Quicken Financial Network gives investors access to price charts, investment research and current news on securities they're following. Customers with Internet access can receive stock and mutual fund price quotes from NetWorth.

Another link in the new Quicken Deluxe 98 provides rapid access to Intuits InsureMarket on the World Wide Web, a site where consumers can obtain competitive life and auto insurance rates for the right coverage in a fraction of the time it takes via traditional methods. InsureMarket provides apples-to-apples rate comparisons from the top insurance companies all in one place.

Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh further expands consumer choices to include the ability to shop for and select mortgages from leading U.S. lenders using links to Intuits new QuickenMortgage marketspace on the World Wide Web. QuickenMortgage provides Mac users with an automated application interview, making it easy to determine the mortgage size that best matches their needs. The feature also helps them figure out optimum timing for refinancing their existing mortgages.

Quicken Helps Users Prepare for Emergencies
Knowing who to contact or where important assets are in an emergency can literally be a lifesaver, and customers said they were interested in tracking their personal records within Quicken. Intuit responded with Emergency Records Organizer, a new feature in Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh that helps users gather, organize and maintain vital personal information in one safe place in case of a financial emergency.

Emergency Records Organizer keeps track of bank accounts, professional advisors, doctors, work associates and more. It identifies where important documents like insurance policies, wills, death and birth records, contracts, tax returns and passports are stored. It also stores and helps protect confidential information such as PIN numbers and credit card accounts. Users can easily print copies for family and friends, lawyers or trustees.

Easier Online Banking
Online banking allows consumers to easily pay bills anywhere in the country and keep their credit card, checking, savings and other accounts in balance. Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh will retrieve account information from financial institutions and automatically enter the data into customers Quicken registers. Customers can check balances day or night and transfer money as well as e-mail their financial institutions with questions or requests.

A new payment log displays online payment activity for an account for up to 60 days so customers can get an easy overview of all their online payments. Using the feature, customers can easily edit, cancel or request status information from one screen. Quicken customers can apply for online payment through many top financial institutions offering the service or they can use the Intuit Online Payment service with any U.S. account with check writing privileges.

Improved Reconcile and Reports
Another banking improvement in Quicken 98 for Macintosh is a smart reconcile feature that allows users to more easily find missing entries when they are trying to reconcile their bank statements. A redesigned reconcile window lets users easily view and match cleared transactions. Once an account is reconciled, consumers can review a statement months later and verify all items were accounted for.

Reporting is essential to a clear understanding of personal finance and improved reports in Quicken 98 help consumers keep track of their personal, business and investment expenses. The new version makes it easier to choose from a variety of reports by displaying sample personal, business and investment reports on-screen before a user actually creates the reports.

Users can customize reports by rearranging columns, editing the report name, changing fonts or choosing different subtotals. Controls for report customization are in the report window making it easy to edit a report on-screen, preview how it will print and to obtain the desired result.

Relentless Customer Focus
Intuits tradition of intense customer focus is at the heart of Quicken Deluxe 98 for Macintosh, according to Scott Cook. Customers told us they wanted a way to organize their vital records and we delivered Essential Records Organizer, he said. They asked to quickly input routine daily transactions and we created QuickEntry.

This year, we added a new dimension to Quicken 98 for Macintosh with links to the Internet, creating a product that begins to give our customers a real sense of what's possible when you combine the best of the desktop with the best of the Web. The result is that at the end of the day, Mac users will have spent a lot less time inputting information and much more time making smart financial decisions.
