MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - September 08, 1998 - Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU), the world leader in financial software, today introduced Quicken Deluxe 99, its newest and most advanced personal finance software. Quicken 99 harnesses the resources of award-winning TurboTax® and Quicken.com™ to create the most comprehensive financial solution available today. Designed to do the work for consumers so they don't have to, Quicken 99 takes users to the next level, providing them with significant money- and time-saving enhancements and valuable financial decision information to help them make the most of their money:
  • Quicken 99 helps users take advantage of often overlooked financial opportunities and lets users get more from their long- and short-term investments and everyday financial decisions (Financial Activity Center, Alerts and What-If Scenarios)
  • Quicken 99 eliminates needless work and saves more time with four innovative new ways to enter data (QuickEntry, WebEntry, One Step Update and Web Connect)
  • Quicken 99 helps users save money and time on taxes with year-round tax planning tools (New Tax Center, Capital Gains Estimator, Tax Deduction Finder, Tax Planner and Quicken Financial Center 99)

"For 15 years, Quicken has set the pace in personal finance software. Quicken 99 continues that legacy by joining forces with Quicken.com to offer our customers simple, unbiased tools to help them make the most of their money," said Mark Goines, senior vice president, Consumer Finance Division. "Personal finance software should act as a tool to make financial chores and decisions easier, saving both time and money. Quicken 99 introduces a number of time-saving and money-saving innovations that allows Quicken users to do just that."

Available in major retail stores beginning September 13, the Quicken 99 line-up features five new products, including the new Quicken Financial Center 99, a comprehensive package that combines Quicken Deluxe 99, TurboTax Deluxe and seamless integration with Quicken.com. This new product provides customers with year-round personal finance and tax management capabilities. In addition, Intuit is offering an enhanced Quicken Home & Business 99, the only personal finance software available specifically for people who want to track their personal and home-based business finances in one place. It allows users to monitor individual customer statements, print invoices and prepare tax reports. Quicken Suite 99 also has been upgraded and now includes Quicken Family Lawyer 99 and Quicken Financial Planner to help customers with long-term planning and legal issues.

Quicken 99 Finds Customers Money-Saving Opportunities They Might Have Otherwise Missed:
The new, customizable Quicken Home Page organizes all of the customer's financial information onto one page. So without having to search for pieces of information, users can see their big financial picture and evaluate how they are doing at a glance in any personal finance area. From this page, consumers can delve into specific areas for closer examination, accessing valuable tips from professional financial planners from the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP). These experts help focus users on key areas of their finances and guide them through an array of financial decisions to help them take action and improve their individual financial situation.

New Alerts, based on breaking financial and business news from Quicken.com, proactively highlight money-saving opportunities based on the financial data stored in Quicken and take users directly to where they can take action. Tracking your mortgage in Quicken 99? Alerts will tell you when you may want to refinance, where to get better interest rates, and how to avoid loan points. Alerts are customizable.

New What-If Scenarios help customers tackle both near- and long-term financial decisions like buying a home, saving for retirement, and more by guiding consumers through a handful of questions. Based on customer's answers to questions like: "Can I send my child to college?," Quicken 99 will use the customer's data to provide the most informed answer. Like Alerts, Intuit will create new What-If Scenarios with the guidance of the ICFP that can be downloaded automatically – and free of charge – into Quicken 99.

Planning for retirement, saving for college and buying a home are long-term financial planning goals that require thought and preparation. QuickPlan, (in Quicken Deluxe 99) helps customers decide how much to save, which investments fit their criteria and how to track their progress. QuickPlan provides immediate feedback about whether the user is on-track to meet their basic financial goals, and if they are not, suggests steps to take to get them back on course. QuickPlan is a basic introductory version of Quicken Financial Planner, widely recognized as the most intelligent and thorough long-range financial planning software available to consumers. The complete Quicken Financial Planner adds planning details such as college expenses and life insurance costs. It is available as a standalone product, or as part of Quicken Suite 99.

Quicken 99 Helps Save Time and Money on Taxes:
Quicken 99 also can identify potential tax savings throughout the year by integrating tools from Intuit's TurboTax, the #1 tax preparation software (WebTurboTax is not available in Quicken Basic). A series of new tax tools have been incorporated into Quicken 99 to help users find money-saving opportunities and prepare simple to complex returns.

Save Time & Money on Taxes:

  • Capital Gains Estimator helps consumers maximize tax savings by identifying which stocks to sell or hold
  • Updated Tax Finder identifies potential deductions
  • Automatic Tax Category Tracking automatically recognizes and flags expenses you track, like childcare costs, as tax deductible
  • Free WebTurboTax allows pertinent tax information in Quicken to be imported in seconds into TurboTax for painless tax preparation and electronic filing (with mail-in rebate)
  • Tax Center puts all tax-related information in one place

Quicken 99 Eliminates Needless Work With Four New Ways to Enter Data
Quicken 99 introduces a number of new time-saving innovations to the personal finance software category:

  • WebEntry, unique to Quicken 99, enables Quicken users to enter their transactions from a protected, personalized Web page on Quicken.com. No matter how far Quicken users are from their desktop, transactions incurred on the road can be entered online for automatic download the next time they return home and open Quicken 99.
  • QuickEntry is a fast-opening mini-application located adjacent to Quicken 99 on the desktop. QuickEntry is the fastest, easiest way for people to enter their transactions into a Quicken register. The next time Quicken Deluxe 99 is opened, transactions entered using QuickEntry are automatically imported into Quicken.
  • One Step Update drastically reduces the time to download customer checking, credit card and investment data into Quicken. It eliminates data entry so customers can enjoy more free time. Now users can download data from multiple financial institutions with just one password and one connection. Users can currently download investment information from 12 of the top brokerage and mutual fund companies, such as Charles Schwab, DLJdirect, E*TRADE Securities, Fidelity Investments, and Salomon Smith Barney; credit card information from more than 25 financial institutions; and bank account information from more than 50 of the largest banks.
  • Web Connect allows users to connect to dozens of financial institutions to access account information and quickly and easily download transactions directly from the Web.

Through Quicken 99's seamless integration with Quicken.com, one of the most visited personal and small business finance destinations on the Web, customers can access free investment information and use valuable personal finance tools designed to help them make the best, most informed financial decisions.
