Turbotax State Offers Help With New State Tax Law Changes And Electronic Filing In 30 States
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - January 26, 1999 - The majority of State tax boards are implementing new tax law changes similar to the sweeping ones found in the 1997 Taxpayer's Relief Act. To help taxpayers take advantage of these changes, Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) -- developers of the #1-selling TurboTax® family of tax preparation software -- today announced availability of TurboTax State and MacInTax® State for all states that require an income tax, plus the District of Columbia.

And for the first time, TurboTax/MacInTax State users can electronically file their state returns in 30 states: AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, GA, IA, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, UT, VA, WI, and WV. Taxpayers in these states can now file their state returns faster and easier than ever before.

The TurboTax/MacInTax State interview system walks users through many state-specific entries, eliminating guesswork and maximizing deductions. This year, there are tax credits available in many states, including credits for dependent care expense, college tuition and taxes paid to other states. To ensure taxpayers take advantage of those credits that apply to them, TurboTax/MacInTax State checks for any additional data required in addition to that which is transferred from the Federal version of TurboTax/MacInTax.

"Many tax credits are available through individual state returns that are not mentioned on the Federal return," said Bob Meighan, vice president of Intuit's Tax Products Division. "Because TurboTax State is so easy to use, it helps people take advantage of any state tax law changes."

Guaranteed Accuracy
As with all TurboTax and MacInTax programs, Intuit guarantees that its software calculations are accurate, having undergone in-depth testing by Intuit's tax experts. In the unlikely event that users are assessed an IRS or state penalty due to a calculation error in the software, Intuit will pay the customer the penalty plus any interest that may be charged.

Pricing and Availability
TurboTax State and MacInTax State can be downloaded or ordered now from the TurboTax Website (www.turbotax.com), or by calling 800-4-INTUIT, for $27.95. Taxpayers can also purchase a multi-state CD-ROM at their local computer software retailer. Suggested retail price is $27.95. Electronic filing is available in 30 states for $4.95.
