Hundreds Of Financial Institutions To Offer Access To Free Online Tax Preparation And Filing Through Quicken Tax Freedom Project
Taxpayers Filing Form 1040EZ and Those With Annual Adjusted Incomes of $20,000 or Less Qualify for Free Program
Mountain View, Calif. - February 10, 2000 - Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) today announced that more than 350 financial institutions and service providers will be offering qualifying taxpayers access to a free online tax preparation and filing service, donated through its Quicken Tax Freedom Project, through the institutions' Websites. This represents 10-fold growth over last year in the number of financial institutions offering access to the Quicken Tax Freedom Project.

Taxpayers with annual adjusted gross incomes of $20,000 or less, as well as anyone filing a Form 1040EZ, qualify for this free program, which Intuit first began for tax year 1998. The free program applies to both state and federal individual income tax returns and uses Intuit's Quicken® TurboTax® for the Websm and TurboTaxEZsm personal tax preparation Web-based products.

According to IRS statistics, approximately 55 million American taxpayers are eligible to participate in the Quicken Tax Freedom Project. Last year, more than 86,000 American tax filers took advantage of Intuit's public service initiative, which also offered both federal and state income tax preparation and filing.

Quicken TurboTax for the Web Available to All Customers
These institutions also offer taxpayers who don't qualify for the free program quick and easy access to TurboTax for the Web. Taxpayers can go to the institutions' sites to prepare and file their individual personal federal tax return for $9.95, and a state return can also be prepared and filed for any state requiring an income tax for $9.95. Both prices include electronic filing.
