Today, Pedro and Maria Eva will receive the keys to their new home, a home they, along with employees of Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) and Habitat for Humanity built with volunteer labor. The Robles family, with their four daughters aged 11, 9, 7 and 8 months, used to live in city-subsidized housing because that was all they could afford. Now, through their own hard work, and the help of Intuit and Habitat for Humanity, they have an affordable house to call home.
Intuit Employees in Tucson raised more than $51,000 through employee donations, corporate donations, a gift from Diamond Ventures and various fund-raising events. In addition, they donated 140 construction hours per week, a total of 2,240 construction hours donated. Intuit paid employees for their regular shifts while working on the house from April to July. The house is a modest three-bedroom home totaling 1,125 square feet.
"We are very excited for the Robles family," said Paul Vaillancourt, vice president of small business service delivery at Intuit, "Intuit is proud to be a part of this community, and we were very happy to be able to give back to it in this way." This initiative allowed Intuit and its employees to fulfill on three of its core operating values of "It's the People," "Teams Work" and "We Care and Give Back."
Intuit's Tucson site houses the call center, customer support and service and direct sales support for Quicken®, QuickBooks®, Quicken TurboTax®, Quicken MacInTax® and payroll services. A total of 150 of Intuit's 1,050 local employees donated their time to this charitable event. Many more donated money, and participated in the various fund-raising events that took place.
