Intuit Releases First-Ever QuickBooks SDK
Software Development Kit To Enable Data Integration Between Third-Party Applications and QuickBooks 2002 Products
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - November 27, 2001 - In conjunction with the launch of its QuickBooks 2002 products, Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU) today made its first QuickBooks® software development kit (SDK) available to third-party developers as part of the Intuit Developer Network program.

QuickBooks SDK Version 1.0 allows developers to enable their products to share data with QuickBooks Pro 2002, QuickBooks Premier 2002 and the QuickBooks Premier 2002: Accountant Edition (see related release, Nov. 27, 2002, "Intuit's QuickBooks 2002 Is 'Right for Your Business'"). Developers can download the SDK on the Intuit Developer Network Web site, http://developer.intuit.com/qbsdkdownload.

"Intuit's small business customer base opens up a world of opportunity and revenue potential for developers," said Timothy Schaefer, president and CEO of American Computer Software, LLC, a Madison, Wis. developer of property management and maintenance software.

Earlier this year, Intuit issued a beta version of the QuickBooks SDK to a select group of Intuit Developer Network members. "We have done 15 product integrations since 1994 using SDKs and have had many years of experience in the field with APIs," said Bob Butler, president of Time Matters Software. "This is the best SDK we've ever seen."

"While developers are excited about the potential of the Intuit Developer Network and the opportunity to expand their customer base, we see the opportunity to offer our small business customers the types of customized software solutions that make Intuit's 'Right for My Business' strategy real," said Esther Kruijver, director of the Intuit Developer Network. "Everyone wins, especially small businesses."

Intuit Developer Network Program Features
Developers can register to become members of the Intuit Developer Network at http://developer.intuit.com/join. The annual membership fee for the program is $1,000 per company. Program features include, but are not limited to:

  • QuickBooks SDK - Member developers will receive the full QuickBooks SDK CD-ROM and printed technical manuals.
  • QuickBooks Solutions Marketplace - Each member developer will have the opportunity to submit any application created with the QuickBooks SDK to Intuit's online catalog.
  • Technical Support - E-mail-based support for up to five inquiries will be provided to member developers by qualified Intuit engineers at no charge. Additional inquiries may require additional support fees.
  • QuickBooks software - Each member developer will receive a copy of QuickBooks Pro 2002 software at no charge for development purposes.
  • Technical Training - Online training on the latest technical topics will be offered to member developers, as well as discounts for day-long instructional seminars.

In addition, Intuit offers a free "community developer" program, which allows developers to download the QuickBooks SDK and participate in developer forums.

Third-party developers who participate in the program are eligible to make their applications available to QuickBooks customers via the QuickBooks Solutions Marketplace (http://marketplace.intuit.com/). This new online catalog allows QuickBooks customers to search for applications by category or specific need. The site also will include detailed descriptions of application features, links to purchasing information, online demos, and ratings and reviews. The QuickBooks Solutions Marketplace will be promoted through several of Intuit's small business products and services, including the QuickBooks 2002 software and QuickBooks.com.

QuickBooks 2002 Beta SDK Developers
QuickBooks 2002 beta developers have created more than 25 industry-specific and business management applications, which are expected to be available beginning in December 2001 to small businesses using QuickBooks 2002 products. Third-party applications range from those addressing the needs of unique vertical industries, such as retail and construction, to those addressing more common needs, such as customer relationship management (CRM), shipping management, time and billing, or wireless access.

"The QuickBooks SDK helped us quickly meet our goal of providing small to mid-sized businesses with an affordable, enterprise-style CRM solution. This will allow us to offer our customers a combined, team-based solution for real-time access to critical customer data," said Patrick Bultema, new president and CEO of FrontRange Solutions Inc. "Participation in the Intuit Developer Network also is making it possible for us to expand our customer base by marketing the data integration benefits of our GoldMine PLUS Accounting software to users of the QuickBooks 2002 products."
