FORTUNE magazine named Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ: INTU) to its prestigious list of the "100 Best Companies to Work for in America." In its first attempt to enter the competition, Intuit® was ranked 45th among companies large and small. Intuit was the only Bay Area company new to the list this year.
FORTUNE and the Great Place to Work Institute recognized Intuit's unique benefits such as on-site dental services, on-site yoga classes and its home-loan assistance program. They also highlighted Intuit's encouragement to learn, including the fact that the company threw a failure celebration to help a team learn from mistakes when a new product failed.
To be considered, companies allow the magazine to survey randomly selected employees on issues such as trust in management, pride in work and company, culture, communication and camaraderie. Seventy percent of the ranking is based on these employee surveys. FORTUNE also reviewed Intuit's employee demographics, benefits and compensation, and work-life balance offerings.
"We're honored to be recognized by our employees, FORTUNE magazine and The Great Place to Work Institute as one of the best companies to work for in America," said Sherry Whiteley, senior vice president of human resources. "We applied for FORTUNE's 2002 list as part of our goal to continue to make Intuit a great place to work. We wanted to learn more about the strengths of Intuit's workplace as well as areas for improvement, and how we compare to other leading companies throughout the nation."
This is the third such award for Intuit in two months. Intuit Canada Limited was named Canada's Top 100 Employers 2002 by author Richard Yerema, and the Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine ranked Intuit Canada No. 2 out of 50 on its list of top Canadian employers.
