A Quart Of Milk, A Loaf Of Bread And A Box Of TurboTax
Shoppers can add leading tax preparation software to their shopping list at Safeway stores nationwide
San Diego, Calif. - January 24, 2002 - Taxpayers now have the added convenience of buying the No. 1-selling tax preparation software, Quicken® TurboTax®, when they buy their groceries. Intuit Inc. today announced an agreement with Safeway Inc., one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America that enables shoppers to purchase TurboTax right at the checkout counter. TurboTax and TurboTax Deluxe are now available at most of Safeway's 1,500 stores across the United States while supplies last.

Intuit is working with Dallas, Texas-based Polarity Inc., a specialized entertainment promotions and distributions company, to secure new distribution channels for its TurboTax software. Safeway will become the first national food and drug retailer to carry TurboTax. In addition to the agreement with Safeway, Polarity is developing additional distribution opportunities with several other leading grocers and specialty retailers.

"By expanding our distribution channels to include food and drug stores, we've made buying a copy of TurboTax as easy as buying a loaf of bread," said Bob Meighan, vice president of Intuit's Consumer Tax Group. "Tax time can be stressful enough. Our new relationship with Safeway stores dramatically increases convenience for our customers and positions TurboTax in locations that attract millions of potential customers who may not be familiar with our tax preparation products."

A Safeway spokesperson said that this unique addition to the brand-name items it already offers its customers extends the value and convenience they've come to expect from Safeway stores and gives shoppers an excellent opportunity to get a jump on tax season.
