Customers Reinvent TurboTax
TurboTax for Tax Year 2004 Delivers Unrivaled Ease of Use and the Confidence Taxes are Done Right
SAN DIEGO - November 30, 2004 - When customers talk, TurboTax listens - and responds. Inspired by customer feedback, Intuit's (Nasdaq: INTU) TurboTax®, the all-time top-selling tax preparation software, has been reinvented for Tax Year 2004. TurboTax takes the pain out of doing taxes with unrivaled ease of use that comes from completely rewritten language that is more like People Magazine than tax software, a new look that feels like popular web sites customers use every day and improved help that's at customers' fingertips.

With more than 10 million customers, TurboTax maintains its market-leading position, with a 71 percent share of federal units sold at retail, by actively gathering and acting on customers' comments.

The customer-driven improvements have already received praise. PC Magazine recognized TurboTax Premier for 2004 with the coveted Editors' Choice award. TurboTax was the only tax software to receive this honor.

Customers Ask, TurboTax Delivers
TurboTax for 2004 addresses the issues customers care about most with seven major improvements:

  • "Make the interview even easier." Throughout the product, TurboTax replaces tax jargon with easy-to-understand language. Rewritten by copywriters and a former editor from People Magazine, TurboTax is easier to use than ever before, giving customers confidence they're answering every question accurately.
  • "I only use TurboTax once a year. Make it feel more familiar." TurboTax has a completely new, fresh look that feels more like popular web sites, such as Amazon.com or Yahoo!, that customers use everyday.
  • "Personalize the interview to my tax situation." Because one size doesn't fit all, TurboTax modifies itself based on the customer's information, reducing the number of screens to only those that are relevant to their unique tax situation, slashing the time it takes to complete a return.
  • "Give me help when and where I need it." TurboTax delivers relevant help right at customers' fingertips. Customers can click on "Explain This" within the interview to get relevant help, eliminating the need to search for answers.
  • "Make it easier to do what I need to do." A new "home" page welcomes customers to TurboTax, making it easy to access common tasks, whether it's starting or completing a return, checking electronic-filing status, amending a return or filing an extension.
  • "Make it easier to review and change tax data." TurboTax now includes timesaving summary screens that enable customers to quickly review and edit the data they've entered into their tax return.
  • "Let me get started right away." This year, TurboTax software updates itself automatically while customers work on their tax returns, so downloads no longer mean downtime.

"TurboTax is great," said Scott Cooper of St. Petersburg, Fla., a TurboTax customer since 1999. "It gets better every year. It's obvious they listen and make improvements based on what customers want and need. I can't imagine doing taxes any other way."
