QuickBooks Point of Sale Rings Up 50,000 Customers
Replaces Cash Register to Easily Track Inventory, Sales and Customer Data
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - May 23, 2006 - A growing number of small businesses are competing better with large retailers by replacing their manual cash registers with computerized point of sale management systems. Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU) today announced that 50,000 small business retailers now use QuickBooks® Point of Sale, an easy-to-use and affordable retail management system. It helps small retail owners manage stores more efficiently by replacing the manual cash register with a personal computer to manage inventory, sales and customer information with integration to QuickBooks financial software.

Since its introduction in 2001, QuickBooks Point of Sale has seen an average year-over-year growth of 30 percent. By comparison, the point of sale market in North America grew by just 5 percent in 2005, according to research by the IHL Consulting Group.

A long-time QuickBooks financial software user, Chad Harris, owner of the Garden Gate in New Orleans, wanted an easy-to-use point of sale system that exported inventory and sales data from his garden and home décor stores directly into his accounting software.

"Intuit has taken a very complicated process and made it absolutely easy," Harris said. "My son started operating it at age 8. He would take care of the sale when we were busy and the system would automatically update our inventory and capture the necessary customer information. If an 8 year old can use it, we knew that everyone else could manage it just as easily."

By keeping it simple, QuickBooks Point of Sale enables small retailers to be more competitive.

"The No. 1 piece of feedback our customers give us is that the right point of sale solution levels the playing field with their competitors," said Steven Aldrich, general manager of QuickBooks Point of Sale. "Because our system is easy to use, our customers spend less time managing their businesses and more time helping their customers. We hear often that they would never go back to using a regular cash register."

Version 5.0 Offers Greater Simplicity
The latest version of QuickBooks Point of Sale exemplifies Intuit's broader goal of bringing simplicity to small business owners. Based on customer feedback, version 5.0 offers increased simplicity and flexibility along with new inventory and gift card features. This gives retailers the ability to track the history of each item in their inventory, drill down into customer data, and use customized designs for receipts, price tags, and orders. Retailers can also easily sell and process gift cards to increase customer loyalty and be more competitive.

QuickBooks Point Sale is available as stand-alone software or with a complete set of retail hardware including a receipt printer, bar code scanner, credit card reader and cash drawer. The QuickBooks Point of Sale software and hardware can be used alone or together with QuickBooks financial software, saving time and reducing errors by helping to eliminate manual data entry.

Product Availability
QuickBooks Point of Sale is available at major office supply retailers, including CompUSA, Fry's, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Sam's Club and Staples, starting at $799. It can also be purchased direct from Intuit by calling (800) 926-6066.
