 |
| New TurboTax Product Line Applies Legendary Ease to Solve Complex Tasks for a Better Outcome |
 |
|
SAN DIEGO -
Nov.
7,
2006 -
When it comes to doing taxes, easy is what people care about most and no one does easy better than TurboTax®. For tax year 2006, TurboTax applies expert ease to solve complex tasks, such as finding and maximizing personal and business deductions, resulting in a better outcome for customers.
TurboTax, the industry leading, No. 1-rated tax preparation software from Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq: INTU), delivers on that promise with a new line of "Right for Me" products. The TurboTax Deluxe Deduction Maximizer, TurboTax Premier Investments and new TurboTax Home & Business products simplify the way people find and maximize deductions, handle complex stock transactions and other investment activity and take full advantage of business write-offs and home office deductions.
"No one understands what people want in tax preparation better than TurboTax," said Brad Henske, senior vice president of Intuit's consumer tax division. "TurboTax is the recognized easy expert. | The Easiest way to Find and Maximize Deductions |
 |
For the more than 44 million taxpayers who itemize, TurboTax Deluxe Deduction Maximizer is the indispensable tool and definitive source for finding and taking advantage of more than 350 possible tax deductions and credits. A new Deduction Maximizer Center simplifies the task of finding and maximizing deductions by:
- Organizing deductions into 10 everyday categories including home, kids and family, charitable contributions, education, medical expenses and more. This makes it easier for customers to identify deduction opportunities based on recent life changes and their current tax situation.
- Showing customers, based on their specific tax situation, which deductions they qualify for, which they don't, and why. At a glance, taxpayers see immediately which deductions they've already taken, which they haven't, and what paperwork they'll need to claim a deduction.
- Searching the taxpayer's return for deduction opportunities and flagging possible missed deductions. For example, the TurboTax Deduction Finder connects the dots for people who claim a dependent, so they don't miss the child care tax credit if they're eligible. Similarly, taxpayers who enter mortgage interest likely are able to deduct property taxes.
"TurboTax makes it possible for customers to leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding every deduction they deserve," said Henske. "TurboTax is the right choice for an increasingly broader range of taxpayers because we make it so easy to get the most from all of the deductions that are relevant to you."

| The Easiest way to Handle Complex Investments |
 |
|
TurboTax Premier Investments simplifies the complex task of reporting tax-related investment activity. TurboTax Premier includes everything in the new Deluxe Deduction Maximizer and provides additional, expert guidance for stocks, bonds, mutual funds, stock options, employee stock purchase plans and rental property.
To make it easier to determine and report the cost basis of a stock or mutual fund, TurboTax introduces Basis Pro™, from Gainskeeper. This new tool easily and accurately helps customers track and calculate their historical cost basis, even if they no longer have their brokerage statement.

| The Easiest way to Maximize Business Write-offs |
 |
A new TurboTax Home & Business product makes it easier to find and maximize business-specific deductions. Designed specifically for the more than 20 million people who must file a Schedule C along with their 1040 return, TurboTax Home & Business:
- Captures all business-related activities first, matching the way most Schedule C filers actually work through their taxes. TurboTax Home & Business separates the business income section from the personal income section, simplifying and streamlining data entry.
- Asks relevant questions based on the customer's type of business. TurboTax Home & Business includes six industry-specific categories, including real estate, professional services, health care, insurance, and more. This means, for example, that TurboTax won't ask a freelance journalist about inventory or payroll.
- Features money-saving, industry-specific tips and deductions, showing customers what is, and what isn't, deductible based on their type of business. For example, online sellers will benefit from guidance on deductions related to digital cameras, shipping, online payment fees and more.
- Includes the new TurboTax Live Community, where small business owners can ask tax questions, get answers and share information with other small business owners like them. This community is available only in TurboTax Home & Business Online.
