After installing the Quicken 99 program, a red Q icon will appear in the status area of the Windows taskbar (where the system clock appears). For Quicken 2000, this icon has changed to a blue globe. This indicates the Quicken Download Manager (also known as Qagent) is enabled. The background downloading function was introduced in the Quicken 99 program. When this option is enabled, background downloading takes advantage of unused bandwidth to download updateable information anytime your computer is connected to the Internet. The information downloaded is not personal financial information related to your account. The kinds of information downloaded in the background include:
- What-if Scenarios
- National average loan rates
- National average money market rates
- National average certificate of deposit (CD) rates
- National average checking account interest rates
- Financial features (stories, commentary)
- Tax calendar information
- Program updates
The red Q or blue globe also contains the Quicken Download Manager menu. Right-click the icon, and the following options are available on the menu:
- Start Quicken - starts the Quicken program if it is not already running.
- Close Quicken Download Manager - disables the background download function for this session only. When the computer is restarted, background downloading will be enabled again.
- Help - access the Quicken program Help window.
- About Quicken Download Manager - opens the About Quicken Download Manager window showing the Download Manager program version.
For more information about background downloading in the Quicken program, see Quicken Download Manager.
