| Question: |
How does background downloading work in Quicken? |
| |
| Answer: |
A utility program called the Quicken Download Manager is installed with Quicken. This utility controls the downloading of updated information for Quicken using a process called background downloading.
Background downloading takes advantage of unused network bandwidth to download information updates anytime your computer is connected to the Internet, even if Quicken is closed. When the Internet connection is active on your computer, and no activity is occurring (you are not actively downloading or uploading information), the Quicken program will use the idle connection time to download information. The Download Manager will stop downloading updated information when you start to use your computer or disconnect from the Internet. The Download Manager will continue the next time there is an idle connection.
When Quicken is installed, the Quicken Download Manager is enabled by default, and the information downloaded into Quicken is not personal financial information related to your account(s). Instead, it will download Update Patch Notification, which alerts you of when a product update patch is available, and the Financial Institution list, which defines which Financial Institutions are available for online access through Quicken. |
