Title Message: "Quicken was not able to complete your request at this time." [OL-297-A] when attempting to connect to Internet for online banking
KB ID#: 6052
Categories: Online Banking/Bill Payment
Question: How do I resolve the following message, which occurs when attempting to connect to the Internet for online banking through Quicken?
Quicken was not able to complete your request at this time. [OL-297-A]

Possible
Cause:

This message will occur if the connection to the Internet was not successful or interrupted. Some likely causes of this are temporary server outages or connectivity problems with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or network.

Personal firewall software can also cause this message.

Intuit and your financial institution value your privacy and security. Therefore, online sessions will not be permitted when there are problems making or maintaining secure connections.

Answer:

To resolve this error, follow the steps below, attempting to complete your online session again after each step:

  1. Verify that the date and time on your computer are correct:
    1. Exit Quicken.
    2. From the Microsoft® Windows® Start button, choose Settings, and then choose Control Panel. (In Microsoft Windows XP, choose Control Panel from the Start button.)
    3. Double-click the Date/Time icon.
    4. In the Date/Time Properties window, set the correct date and time, and then click OK.
    5. Start Quicken and attempt your online request again.

  2. Intuit and your financial institution value your privacy and security. Therefore, online sessions will not be permitted when there are problems making or maintaining secure connections. To update Quicken files so that a secure connection can be made, complete a One Step Update.

  3. Update the ofxroots file.

  4. Connect to the Internet outside of Quicken (as you normally would to check e-mail or browse the Internet), and then start Quicken and attempt your online session.

Note: If you have trouble connecting to the Internet outside of Quicken, contact your ISP, cable service, or network administrator for further assistance.

  5. Configure Quicken as though you have a direct connection to the Internet without proxy settings.

  6. Wait several hours and then attempt your session again. The server that you are attempting to connect may be temporarily unavailable.

If you have personal firewall software (for example, Black Ice Defender®, Zone Alarm®, Norton Internet SecurityTM, or other firewall software), verify that the Quicken program (qw.exe) has full and unrestricted access to the Internet.

Note: Due to the wide variety of firewall software packages and configurations, it is not possible to list directions on how to verify that Quicken has unrestricted Internet access. Consult your software documentation or manufacturer for assistance with this matter.

In some rare instances, the firewall software may need to be uninstalled in order for the Quicken program to access the Internet. Since this could have serious security risks associated with it, Intuit does not recommend that you to do this. Rather we are making you aware that in some rare circumstances it may be necessary. If this is the case, consider investigating other firewall software or protective measures, if you want to use the Quicken program’s online features with some level of network/system protection.
