Title Error: "Unable to open file."
KB ID#: 574238
Categories: File Management/Conversion, General Issues, Install/Uninstall, Software Updates
Question: Why do I receive the following error when opening newly converted files on Mac® OS X.2?
Unable to open file.

Possible
Cause:

This error will occur if a newly updated data file was moved from the original folder package to another folder before restarting the computer.

Answer:

In Mac OS X, your Quicken data file is stored as a package. A package is a set of files that have been combined to act as a single file. For more information on package files, visit the Apple Web site.

To prevent this issue from occurring, restart your computer after converting the files. If the issue persists, open the original data file. The Quicken program will then reconvert the file and create a new data file package.

It is also possible to move the data file to a different location:

  1. Right-click the Quicken data file on your desktop and select Show package contents.
  2. Open the Contents folder.
  3. Move the data file to the location of your choice and use that location in the future. For example, move the data file to your desktop.
