Title Tracking converted Microsoft Money data in Quicken after using the Data Converter
KB ID#: 576479
Categories: File Management/Conversion, Investments, Quicken Home & Business
Question: What data can be tracked in Quicken after converting it from Microsoft® Money using the Data Converter?

Answer:

Much of the data that was converted from Money to Quicken can be tracked in Quicken. This includes asset and liability accounts, such as mortgages; bonds; and exercised employee stock options.

Although some data cannot be converted from Money to Quicken, it can be manually entered and tracked in Quicken. This includes unexercised stock option grants, loans, exchange-traded options, and budgets.

To track asset and liability accounts (like a mortgage):

The Data Converter groups asset and liability accounts with cash flow accounts in the Cash Flow Center. To track these accounts in the Property & Debt Center of Quicken:

  1. From the Quicken Property & Debt menu, choose Property & Debt Accounts, and then choose Account List.
  2. In the Property & Debt Accounts section, double-click the account to open it.
  3. Click the Overview tab, and then click the Edit Account Details button in the Account Attributes section.
  4. In the Account Location drop-down list, select Property & Debt: Asset or Property & Debt: Liability, and then click OK.

To track bonds:

Your Quicken data file contains the cost basis and price values for the bonds you tracked in Money. However, bonds are tracked differently in Quicken than they are in Money.

  • To view the number of bond shares you own or adjust the number of shares:
    1. From the Quicken Investing menu, choose Investing Accounts, and then choose Account List
    2. In the Investing Accounts section, double-click the account you want to open.
    3. Click the Transactions tab.
    4. Double-click the transaction to open the Edit Shares Bought window.

  • To view the correct total share information:
    1. From the Quicken Investing menu, choose Investing Accounts, and then choose Account List
    2. In the Investing Accounts section, double-click the account you want to open.
    3. Click the Transactions tab to display the Transaction List

For employee stock option grants (ESOGs), the Data Converter only converts exercised stock. However, you can enter ESOGs manually.

For information on tracking unexercised employee stock option grants:

  1. From the Quicken Help menu, choose Contents.
  2. Click the Index tab, and then type ESOG.
  3. Double-click the appropriate selection to view it.

The data converter does not convert loans, exchange-traded options, or budgets.

For information on tracking loans:

  1. From the Quicken Help menu, choose Contents.
  2. Click the Index tab, type loans, and then double-click setting up to view the topic.

For information on tracking exchange-traded options:

  1. From the Quicken Help menu, choose Contents.
  2. Click the Index tab, type options, recording investment options, and then click the Display button to view the topic.

For information on tracking budgets:

  1. From the Quicken Help menu, choose Contents.
  2. Click the Index tab, type budgets, and then double-click creating to view the topic.

Note: If you would like additional assistance converting your data, please call (800) 811-8766 to speak with a Quicken technical support agent. There is currently no charge for assistance with your data conversion. Other support may be subject to Quicken’s normal billing policies.
