| Question: |
How do
I find an existing Quicken data file? |
| |
| Answer: |
Quicken opens the Get Started with Quicken 2005 window when it cannot
find the most recent file used. Close this window, and use the following
procedure to find the file you want.
To find an existing Quicken data file:
-
From the Quicken File menu, choose Find Quicken Files.
-
Specify whether you want Quicken to locate all the Quicken data files on this
computer, or just a file with a name you enter.
If you do not know the complete name of the data file you want, enter the part
of the name that you do remember, and then use a single asterisk to replace the
missing characters either before or after the part of the name you enter.
-
In the Look in field, select where you want Quicken to look for the
file.
-
Click Find to start the search. If Quicken displays the data file you
want before the search is complete, you can click Stop to end the
search.
Quicken displays the files that meet your search criteria in the Data Files
Found area.
-
In the Data Files Found area, select the file you want to open.
-
Click Open.
Other ways to look for files:
-
Open the Quicken File menu and look at the bottom. There you'll find the four
most recently opened data files. Select any file you want to open. (It is a
good idea to make a note of the files on this list before selecting them,
because the list updates each time a file is opened in Quicken.)
-
From the Quicken File menu, choose Open
to see the name of the folder where Quicken is looking for your data file. You
can navigate to another location if necessary.
-
Check to see if you deleted any files with .QDF, .QEL, .QPH, and .QSD file
extensions. Files with these extensions are Quicken data files and you'll want
to restore
a backup copy of your data if you have one.
-
Quicken makes an automatic backup copy of your data every seven days. From the
Quicken File menu, choose File Operations, and then choose Copy
to copy all its files to the folder where you usually
keep your data, and tell Quicken you want to use the New File when presented
with a choice.
Note: Quicken places automatic backups in the BACKUP folder, which
you'll find in the same folder as your data file.
