These errors occur when the update is run directly from the compact disc. The update file must be copied to the computer's hard disk and run from that location to update the Quicken program. Use the following procedure to resolve the error and update the Quicken program to the R5 release:
- Insert the Quicken program compact disc in the CD-ROM drive. This will open the Quicken Deluxe 98 CD window.
- In the Quicken Deluxe 98 CD window, double-click the Next, install Quicken update folder. This will open the folder.
- Locate the correct patch for the computer you are using:
- If your computer is a Power Macintosh, the correct patch is Quicken Deluxe 98 PPC Patch.
- If your computer uses the 68030 or 68040 processor, the correct patch is Quicken Deluxe 98 68K Patch.
- Drag the correct patch file to the hard disk icon on the desktop (default name Macintosh HD). This will copy the patch file to the computer's hard disk.
- After the patch file is copied to the hard disk, close the Quicken Deluxe 98 CD window, and remove the compact disc from the CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the Macintosh HD icon on the desktop to open the hard disk. This will open the Macintosh HD window.
- In the Macintosh HD window, double-click the update patch file. This opens the Update Maker window.
- In the Update Maker window, select (highlight) Quicken Deluxe 98. Be sure to select the correct Quicken Deluxe 98 program to update.
- Click the Update button.
- When the update finishes, start the Quicken program.
- Check the release to ensure the R5 update installation was successful. To do this, press and hold the R key while selecting About Quicken on the Apple menu.
