Title Share balance and market values are incorrect
KB ID#: 1598
Categories: Investments
Question: Why are the amounts for my share balance and market values incorrect?

Possible
Cause:

Differences in share balance and/or market values are often caused by transactions or stock splits which have been recorded incorrectly in one or more investment registers. The transaction may include the wrong security, a future date, or the wrong split ratio. A Security Report can be used to review and edit all the transactions for the security in question.

Answer:

Differences in share balance and/or market value are often caused by transactions or stock splits which have been incorrectly recorded in one or more investment registers. The transaction may include the wrong security, a future date, or the wrong split ratio. A Security Report can be used to review and edit all the transactions for the security in question. Complete the following steps to resolve this issue:

  1. From the Lists menu, select Investments, then click Security.
  2. Select the View Hidden Securities check box.
  3. Select the security in question.
  4. In the Security List, click Report. This will open a Security Report window showing details of all transactions for that security, and the accounts that contain those transactions.
  5. Click Options.
  6. In the Report and Graph Options dialog, clear the check from the QuickZoom to Investment Forms check box. Click OK.
  7. In the Security Report, look for any transactions which have a future date, an unusual stock split ratio or any other incorrect information.
  8. Place the pointer over the transaction. When the pointer turns into the QuickZoom icon (a Z within a magnifying glass), double-click the transaction. This zooms directly to the investment account register and highlights the selected transaction.
  9. Edit the transaction to with the correct information.

Note: If possible, simplify any stock split ratios. For example, a 67 for 45 stock split could be simplified to 3 for 2 plus a small Share Balance Adjustment.

Note: If you had a future transaction, you will want to edit the security price history to remove the future price.
