Answer:

It has come to our attention that a few of our customers have received an e-mail with instructions to update the intuit.reg file in their Windows registry. Please be aware that this e-mail DID NOT originate from Intuit. As a precaution, we recommend that you disregard those instructions, DO NOT open any attachments contained within the e-mail, delete the e-mail from your Inbox, and then delete it from your Deleted Items folder.

The inclusion of Intuit's™ name being associated with this e-mail is completely random and was in no way attributable to our practices. The e-mail you received was generated by a virus contained within the attachment that randomly selected your e-mail address from an infected users address book.

At no time during this issue was any customer financial data compromised. This particular virus is one that is known and detectable by most anti-virus software. For more information on this virus, please visit: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.magistr.24876@mm.html.

We also strongly suggest you have the most current anti-virus software installed, and that you take steps to keep the virus definition files up to date on a regular basis.  For information on anti-virus software that has been certified by TruSecure Corp., you can visit them at http://www.icsalabs.com/html/communities/antivirus/certification/certprod.shtml.

At Intuit, our priority is protecting and securing the personal and private information provided to us by our millions of customers. We regret any inconvenience caused to our loyal and valued customers. The Intuit team is currently investigating this matter and will notify customers if any additional steps need to be taken.
