This message most commonly appears when the OK button is clicked in the Restore File window when no file name is selected. To restore a data file:
- From the File menu, choose Restore.
- Select the A:\ drive to restore the backup from.
- Click the file name and then click OK.
This message can also occur if the Quicken data file was backed up to a damaged floppy disk. If a file name is selected, and the error message still appears, try copying the backed up file to a new floppy disk by following the instructions below.
- From the Start Menu, Select Run, and type the word command.
- This should bring you to a DOS prompt reading C:\Windows\Desktop. Type CD\ and press the Enter key on the keyboard. This should bring you to a DOS prompt reading C:\.
- At this prompt, type Diskcopy_a:_a: (the "_" symbol represents a space).
- Next, follow the on-screen instructions in order to copy the backed up data to a new floppy disk(s).
Note: When prompted to insert the source disk, insert the floppy disk containing the previously backed up Quicken data file. When prompted to insert the destination disk, insert a clean formatted floppy disk. Repeat this process until all disks containing the backed up Quicken file are copied to new floppy diskettes.
- Attempt to restore the copy of the Quicken backup from the new diskette to the hard drive.
If this error message persists, or if the file set cannot be copied, the files on the floppy disk may be damaged. Restore a backup from a different floppy disk.
Note: This error message will also appear if the file being restored was created in any of the following Quicken program versions:
- Quicken 1 or 2 for Windows
- Quicken 3, 4, 5 or 5 for DOS
- Quicken 7 for DOS if no investment accounts were created in the file.
