Security Intuit is dedicated to addressing important issues affecting
our customers. The security of our customers' data is a top priority at
Intuit. We go to great lengths to ensure that our software and web-based
services are as secure as possible in order to keep our customers' data
safe. To make your personal computing as safe as possible, Intuit recommends
following "safe computing" guidelines at all times, especially when dealing
with programs or files from unknown sources -- this applies both to software
available on the Internet and sent via e-mail. While the Web is quickly
becoming a very efficient and powerful channel for sharing information with
others, it also raises the risk of unknowingly downloading infected or malicious
software or computer viruses. And although we do our best to identify potential
problems and alert our customers, there is still the possibility of a security
gap that can only be closed by the use of safeguards such as virus protection
software.
To make your personal computing as safe as possible, Intuit recommends
adhering to the following safe computing guidelines:
Safe Computing Guidelines
- Regularly use virus detection software to ensure that your computer
is free from known viruses. There are many well-supported commercial
tools from reputable vendors that provide this functionality to
users.
- Never install or run software from unknown sources -- this applies
both to software available on the Internet and sent via e-mail.
- If you choose to run applications and/or files sent to you via
the Internet, make sure you are familiar with both the origin of
the file and the person who sent you the file or program in question.
- If you use a computer that is not your own, be sure it adheres
to these safe computing guidelines.
- Frequently check for new updates to make sure that your virus
software is up-to-date.
- Make sure all your software is up-to-date, including installing
all available updates and security patches.
- Limit points of entry to your computer(s). If you use software
that enables remote access to your computer, be sure to utilize
its security features.
- Change passwords often to help protect against unauthorized access
to your computer.
- Use passwords that are only known to you and are not based on
other public information about you.
