Quicken Family Lawyer 8.0 and Quicken Deluxe 99

Quicken Family Lawyer is a program that comes with the Quicken Suite 99. Unlike some previous versions of Quicken Suite, Family Lawyer does not automatically install along with Quicken Deluxe 99. To access Family Lawyer from within Quicken, follow this procedure:

  1. Install or have installed Quicken Deluxe 99.
  2. Install or have installed Quicken Family Lawyer Deluxe 8.0
  3. Open the Quicken initialization file (Quicken.ini) to make necessary changes.
  4. Edit the Quicken.ini file.
  5. Launch the Family Lawyer program from within Quicken.

Installing Quicken Family Lawyer

  1. Place the Quicken Family Lawyer CD-ROM in the computer drive bay.
  2. If the installation function does not automatically begin, point to Settings on the Start menu and select Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. This opens the Add/Remove Programs Properties window.
  3. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties window, select Family Lawyer Deluxe 8.0 and click Install.
  4. Follow onscreen instructions to complete installation of the program.

Accessing the Quicken.ini File

Once the Quicken Family Lawyer installation is complete, follow this procedure to open the Quicken initialization file and add lines necessary to make it accessible from within Quicken Deluxe99:

  1. Choose Run from the Windows Start menu. This opens the Run window.
  2. In the Run window, type quicken.ini, and click OK. This opens the Quicken.ini file (Quicken initialization).

Editing the Quicken.ini File

  1. Close the Quicken Deluxe 99 program if it is open.
  2. The first section of the Quicken.ini file is headed [Quicken]. In this section, look for the AddApps= line. If there is no such line, type it in exactly as it appears below:

  3. Following the equal sign (or following the other entries if other entries already exist), type the following line exactly as it appears below:

    ;QFL

  4. Next, look for a Quicken Family Lawyer section in the Quicken.ini. It will look like this:

    ExeName=C:\Program Files\Parsons Technology\Family Lawyer Deluxe\FRONT32.EXE
    MenuString=Quicken Family Lawyer
    ModuleName=QFL
    IntuitID=1023
    WinTitle=Family Lawyer
    IsGlobal=FALSE

  5. If there is not a section that looks exactly as above, enter it precisely as it appears above. If you installed Quicken Family Lawyer to a drive other than a C drive, replace the C in the ExeName= line with the drive letter where you installed it.
  6. Save and close the Quicken.ini file.

Launching Quicken Family Lawyer from within Quicken

  1. Open Quicken and launch Family Lawyer using one of these two methods:
    • Point to Add-Ons on the Features menu and select Quicken Family Lawyer 8.0.
    • Click the QFL icon on the top iconbar.
  2. If there is no QFL icon on the iconbar, use the following procedure to add one:
    1. Point to Options on the Edit menu and choose Icon Bar. This opens the Customize Iconbar window.
    2. Click New in the Customize Iconbar window. This opens the Add Action To Iconbar window.
    3. In the Add Action To Iconbar window, select (highlight) Quicken Family Lawyer and click OK. This will add the QFL icon to the top iconbar.
