Depending on your modem speed, the capabilities of your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and overall Internet traffic, downloading the Quicken 99 R5 update may take 30 minutes or longer.

Note: It is necessary to have the Quicken 99 program installed on your computer to use the following procedure. Additionally, you must complete all online investment and banking sessions before updating to a new Quicken program release. 

1. If you regularly go online for Online Quotes, start Quicken, and go online. After your information is downloaded, a message will appear saying an update is available.
2. If you do not regularly go online, choose One Step Update from the Online menu. This will open the Quicken 99 Download Selection window.
3. Deselect (uncheck) all options in the Quicken 99 Download Selection window, and click Update Now. This causes the Quicken program to automatically look for an available update.
4. When an update is available for the Quicken program you are using, the Quicken 99 Download Summary window will indicate that an update is available. Click Continue in this window.
5. A message window will appear saying: "Free update available for your Quicken 99 software," and it provides three choices:

• Click the Update Now button to download the Quicken program update now.
• Click the Tell Me More button to learn what changes the update contains before downloading the update.
• Click Update Later to download the update to your Quicken program at a later time. If this option is chosen, Quicken will provide reminder messages that the update is available. This update can be downloaded at a later time either by responding to this message or by clicking Update Most Recent Version on the Help menu.

6. Click Update Now to download and install the update to the Quicken program.
7. At the Quicken 99 Update Utility window, click Next.
8. Follow the update wizard instructions to complete the update installation.
9. After the update has completed, check the Quicken 99 program release to ensure it is correct. For more information, see How can I tell which release of the Quicken 99 program is installed on my computer?

Note: If Quicken 99 is uninstalled, and the R1, R2,R3 or R4 version is reinstalled (from the original floppy disks or CD ROM), the R5 update must also be reinstalled. If you need help doing this, see Reinstalling the Update.

Update Download Errors
If you experience an error during the update download, select Download Error.
