Quicken 2005 for Mac
This document contains important information about changes
that are contained in Quicken 2005 for Mac, Release 4 (R4).
Installing this software will upgrade the R4 version of Quicken
2005 for Mac to R4, incorporating the improvements listed
below. Intuit recommends that all Quicken 2005 for Mac users
install this update.
Download
and install the Quicken 2005 for Mac R4 update to take
advantage of the following improvements.
System Requirements
- Mac with G3, G4, or G5 processor
- Mac OS X, version 10.2.8, 10.3.5, or 10.3.6
- 128 MB installed RAM
- 100 MB free disk space for installation (40 MB after installation)
- Double speed (2X) or faster CD-ROM
- Color monitor with at least 1024x768 resolution and thousands
of colors
- To print checks: Intuit checks and a 100% Mac-compatible
inkjet or laser printer
- To access online features, including online account access
and online payment: Internet access using a 56 Kbps or faster
modem, and Internet Explorer 5.2.2 or Safari 1.0.2 or later
Note: Stuffit Expander is required to install Quicken updates. Stuffit Expander is not included in Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger). If you are using Tiger, a free download of Stuffit Expander is available at http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html.
Installation Instructions
Follow these instructions to install the R4 update:
- If you have not installed
and registered
your existing copy of Quicken 2005 for Mac, do so now.
- Double-click the Quicken 2005 R4 Updater application.
- The Updater application will search for the application
that is located inside the Quicken 2005 folder on
your hard disk. If more than one application is found, select
the one that corresponds to the copy of Quicken you wish
to update.
- Click Update.
Note: If the Updater application does not find the
application on your hard drive, you will need to reinstall
Quicken 2005 for Mac from your original CD.

Online banking
- Issues that could inhibit the ability to record new transactions or edit transactions via the Download Transactions window have been resolved.
- An issue in which prior statements could be lost after editing an account has been resolved.
- An issue in which online transfers could become duplicated when sending online transfers through multiple financial institutions has been resolved.
- An issue that could prevent enabling an account for Direct Connect online access if it had previously been enabled using Web Connect has been resolved.
- Support is now provided for additional secure connections when performing Direct Connect online banking with your financial institution.
- The download time of financial institution list updates has been reduced.
Home Inventory
- Onscreen Help files for Home Inventory have been updated.
General
- An issue in which an Internal Error 760 or 761 could occur when performing various tasks in Quicken (creating reports, downloading transactions, etc.) has been resolved.
- Stability improvements have been made to prevent Quicken from quitting unexpectedly when launching.

Feature Notes For Quicken 2005 For Mac, R2
Home Inventory
- Performance has been enhanced in working with high-resolution
images, creating inventory reports, and switching between
the Categories and Locations lists.
- Added the ability to select multiple items in the image
browser window.
- When adding new images, saving periodically will enhance
Home Inventory's performance.
- Display issues in the Locations and Categories lists have
been resolved.
- If you did not have iPhoto installed or had renamed it,
you may have experienced an issue where the Show pop-up
menu selection remains selected after Home Inventory detects
that iPhoto is not available and the progress meter continues
spinning indefinitely. This issue has been resolved.
- If you are running Mac OS 10.2.8 and add or remove pictures
in an iPhoto album in iPhoto after you have already selected
that album in Home Inventory, those changes are now reflected
in the Home Inventory Show pop-up menu.
- You may have experienced an issue where dragging an image
from the main window to a different location updated the
list selection, but not what was displayed in the main window.
This issue has been resolved.
Account Setup
- When setting up accounts, you may have noticed that the
date fields did not respond to the keyboard shortcut keys.
This issue has been resolved.
- For financial institutions that support both Direct Connect
and Web Connect download, either method can now be selected.
Account Registers
- You may have noticed that in some cases, typing in a highlighted
field produced no response and it was necessary to first
click in the field before it would accept typing. This issue
has been resolved.
- In some cases, pressing Command-W while a pop-up menu
was open may have caused Quicken to unexpectedly quit. This
issue has been resolved.
Scheduled Updates
- You may have experienced an issue where security prices
were not updated during a Scheduled Update. This issue has
been resolved.
- If you are running Mac OS 10.2.8, the column headers in
the Scheduled Updates window may have displayed intermittently.
This issue has been resolved.
Tax reports
- When reports are exported in TurboTax format, they are
now automatically appended with .TXF so that they are immediately
recognized by TurboTax.
One Step Update
- You may have noticed missing bullets or strange text in
the One Step Update History after updating your Discover
card. This issue has been resolved.
- You may have experienced an issue where you erroneously
received an error message when there were no errors. This
issue has been resolved.
Conversion from previous versions of Quicken
- You may have experienced problems converting your data
file from previous versions of Quicken when you choose to
replace your toolbar with the new Quicken default toolbar
settings. This issue has been resolved.
- You may have experienced an issue where some older data
files would not open in Quicken 2005. This issue has been
resolved.
- If you are upgrading from a version of Quicken earlier
than Quicken 2000 and track a long history of many security
prices, you may have experienced problems converting to
Quicken 2005. This issue has been resolved.
Reports
- You may have received an "internal error 701" when running
some reports. This issue has been resolved.
Toolbar
- You may have had difficulty removing an account from the
toolbar if the toolbar was full. This issue has been resolved.
Download Transactions Window (online banking)
- Issues were resolved with tabbing through and accepting
downloaded transactions into the account register.
- You may have noticed a problem with recording the category
for a downloaded transaction. This issue has been resolved.
- In some cases, categories added to a transaction via the
pop-up menu were not being recorded. This issue has been
resolved.
Downloading investment transactions
- You may have noticed that transactions with a zero balance
were not recorded correctly in the register after being
accepted. This issue has been resolved.
- The transaction matching logic has been improved for downloaded
Investment transactions.
- Downloaded banking transactions that contain check numbers
with leading zeros no longer display the leading zeros,
so that you can see the relevant numbers (up to five digits).
- Stability improvements were made with regard to downloading
Web Connect investment files.
Security Detail Window
- The graph in the Security Detail window no longer displays
a date range outside of the price history contained in the
Quotes file.
- You may have experienced an issue in the Graph tab of
the Securities Detail window where securities without symbols
were mislabeled in the legend. This issue has been resolved.
- Prices which include four or more digits to the right
of the decimal or more than seven total digits are no longer
truncated in the Transactions tab of the Security Detail
window.
Portfolio Window
- A problem with editing the Security Type list when clicking
Add Security from the Portfolio was resolved.
- The horizontal scroll bar is now proportional to the size
of the window and/or amount of data displayed in the window.
- Stability improvements were made in the Portfolio window
with regard to clicking on the News icon and moving transactions
from one account to another.
Investment Actions
- Quicken now gives you the ability to set up a security
on the fly when performing a Corporate Acquisition investment
action.
- The date field for Corporate Acquisition and Spin Off
actions now supports keyboard shortcuts.
Investment Reports and Graphs
- An issue with calculating Capital Gains reports containing
sales of multiple security lots using a single sell transaction
has been resolved.
- The column title "*" has been changed to "Estimated"
in the Portfolio Value report.
- An issue with calculating Investment Income reports that
contain Short Sells and/or Cover Shorts has been resolved.
- The Performance IRR, Performance ROI, Portfolio Value,
and Asset Allocation reports now support customization based
on the Security field.

Quicken 2005 to QuickBooks 6.0 conversion issue
If you encounter errors when you try to open a Quicken 2005
for Mac file in QuickBooks Pro 6 for Mac, download this utility
and follow the instructions provided in the accompanying read
me file.
Download
and install the Quicken-to-QuickBooks Tool to take advantage
of the following improvements:
This utility will fix an issue where QuickBooks would fail
to convert Quicken 2005 file if the Quicken file was updated
to version R3 or R3. Using this tool is necessary only
if you plan on converting a Quicken 2005 for Mac file to QuickBooks
6 for Mac.
Making a backup copy of your Quicken data file
Before using the tool, be sure to make a backup copy of your
Quicken data file. For extra security, lock your backup data
file.
Using the Quicken-to-QuickBooks Tool
- Double-click the Quicken-to-QuickBooks Tool icon.
- Select the Quicken data file you want to change, and then
click Choose (Mac OS X) or Open (Mac OS 9).
Note: You can also drag your Quicken data
file to the Quicken-to-QuickBooks Tool icon. If your Quicken
data file is located in a FileVault-protected folder, move
the data file to a non-protected location (like the Quicken
application folder) before using the Quicken-to-QuickBooks
Tool.
Converting your Quicken 2005 for Mac data file to QuickBooks
6 for Mac
After you successfully change your Quicken 2005 R3 or R3 data
file to R1, you can convert it in QuickBooks 6 for Mac.
- Quit the Quicken program.
- Open QuickBooks 6 for Mac.
- From the QuickBooks File menu, choose Convert
from Quicken.
- Click Yes to review information on converting a
Quicken file.
- Choose the Quicken data file, and the click Open.
Troubleshooting
- Quicken Onscreen User Guide
We recommend that you use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or
later to view our User Guide. Adobe Acrobat Version 3.0
will not properly display all characters.
