Free update available for your Quicken 2005 software
QUICKEN 2005 RELEASE 5 UPDATE -- October 2005
This free update provides you with the important enhancements to your Quicken software. Based on feedback that we have received, changes have been made to File Backup and Printing. For additional information, click the Tell Me More button.
BEFORE YOU UPDATE:
If you use online account services to download transactions into Quicken or to pay bills online from within Quicken, please make sure to complete all your online sessions before you update.
To check that all previous online sessions have been completed we recommend you perform the following steps:
- From the Online Center, click Update/Send. If your last online session was not completed you'll see the following error message:
Your last online session was not completed. Quicken will now try to complete this previous connection. After it is done, you can send your new request.
- Click OK to complete your previous connection. Once the connection has completed, you can proceed with your Quicken update.

PRINTING
- Fixed a bug that prevented Quicken from printing more than 7 checks at one time.
Quicken 2005 Release 4 Notes
PRINTING
- Returned the ability to change fonts used for printing checks. Customization is allowed for text that will not interfere with it being Check 21 image compatible. To remain image compatible, font customization will continue be restricted for a select number of fields.
Note: Standard and voucher checks printed in Quicken 2005 will be accepted by your financial institution under the Check 21 guidelines. If you are using wallet style checks Intuit can not guarantee they will be accepted by your financial institution. We recommend that you purchase standard or voucher style checks for use with Quicken 2005 or upgrade to Quicken 2006 which supports Check 21 requirements with wallet checks.

FILE BACKUP
- Fixed a problem where the Windows Installer dialog appears when trying to backup a file in Windows XP or Windows 2000.
Privacy Statement
- Updated descriptions of our privacy practices for our online services available through Quicken.com and included descriptions for new features, such as the discussion forums.

TAXES
- Updated Quicken to reflect changes in the 2005 tax rates.
SCHEDULED TRANSACTIONS
- Fixed a problem that caused the number of payments remaining for a scheduled transaction to be displayed incorrectly.
- Eliminated a situation that caused transaction data from a scheduled invoice to be entered incorrectly.
ONLINE BANKING
- Resolved a compare to register issue that incorrectly displayed the status of a payment after it was accepted.
- Removed a Quicken restriction that prevented duplicate account numbers for different account types.
QUICKEN BILLPAY
- Resolved an issue that prevented one-time or reoccurring payments from being transmitted with a 4-day lead time.
INVESTMENTS
- Fixed an investment transaction problem that incorrectly recorded transfers from a linked checking account.
- Reduced the frequency of appearance of the recalculation dialog within investment forms.
FILE BACKUP
- Fixed a problem that prevented backing up a Quicken file to multiple floppy disks on Windows 98 and ME operating systems.
- Fixed a problem that prevented opening a Quicken file after restoring it.
FILE VALIDATE
- Improvements to File Validate are also included in this release. Please use File Validate if you are experiencing any program crashes. Choose File menu > File Operations > Validate.

This release contains the following enhancements and improvements:
FILE BACKUP
- Eliminated a potential crash when backing up to an empty disk drive during the
conversion process.
- Backup location settings will now be retained after conversion.
INSTALL
- The Update Quicken message will no longer display after "Never update Quicken
on startup again." has been selected.
INVESTING
- Eliminated a potential crash when transferring all shares of a security between
investing accounts.
- Resolved an issue involving the description field for miscellaneous income and
expense transactions.
- Added performance and stability improvements to the Growth of $10,000 snapshot
in the Investing Center.
- Added performance improvements to investment statement download.
ONLINE BANKING
- Eliminated a potential crash when selecting the "Make New" button in the
Compare to Register feature.
- Added performance improvements to the Compare to Register feature.
PRINTING
- Updated default fonts for Print Checks to be compliant with government Check 21 regulations and removed the ability to customize to non-compliant font types.
RECONCILE
- Added performance and stability improvements to the reconcile feature.
REPORTS
- Resolved an issue with the display of a split withdraw transaction in an
investment account.
SCHEDULED AND MEMORIZED TRANSACTIONS
- Resolved a problem with duplicate transactions appearing after editing
scheduled dividends.
- Added performance improvements to date handling in scheduled transactions and
payments.
- Eliminated a situation where re-memorizing edited memorized investment transactions
caused other memorized transactions to be dropped from the Memorized Investment Transaction
List.
