Maryland Withholding – Change to Prince George County Tax Rate

The Comptroller of Maryland , Revenue Administration Division announced that the Maryland withholding tables will not change for wages paid on or after January 1, 2009.  However, the county tax rate for Prince George will be changing to the 3.2% tables beginning January 1, 2009.  The 2009 Percentage Method Tables can be found on the Agency’s website, <click here>. As noted on the website, click on the jurisdiction where the employee lives to find the proper withholding calculation.

How do I know if I'm affected?


You may be affected if you currently withhold Maryland income taxes from employee’s wages or have a valid Maryland Registration Number and have employees who are subject to the Prince George County Tax Rate.

 

When should I change the County tax rate for Prince George to 3.2% in QuickPayroll?

Since the Maryland County tax rates are entered manually in QuickPayroll, you should change the County tax rate in QuickPayroll on or after January 1, 2009.

 

Note:  If you are creating paychecks in December 2008 for paychecks dated on or after January 1, 2009, you should change the County tax rate prior to creating your paychecks.

 

What steps do I need to take next?

Once you are ready to change your County tax rate for Prince George to 3.2% for 2009, take the following steps:

 

  1. From the List menu, select Employees. Double click on an employee who is subject to Prince George County Tax.
  2. Click on the Payroll Info tab.
  3. Then click on the Taxes tab.
  4. Then click on the State tab.
  5. Enter the 2009 Prince George County Tax Rate of 3.2% in the County % Rate box.
  6. Click OK twice.
  7. Be sure to change the county tax rate for all employees who are subject to the Prince George County Tax Rate.
