Q: Why are overpayments from last Quarter not being
included on Form 941 Line 14, even though I selected the option
to Apply Overpayment to Next Return?
A: Overpayments from previous quarters are
not carried forward. Form 941 Line 14 includes only amounts
from Liability Checks whose "Payment for payroll liabilities
through" date is within the current quarter and whose
check date is within the current quarter or one month after
the quarter (for example: a check written on 7/31 for quarter
ending 6/30 will be included, but a check written on 8/01
for same quarter will not be included in Line 14).
To resolve the problem manually adjust Line 14 for any overpayment
from the previous quarter.
- From the Summary for Line 11 to 14 window, click on Yes
under "Do you need to adjust any of these numbers?".
- Click Next and adjust Line 14.
